I have been working on a Hp Dv 2500 Entertainment Notebook. Belonging to my Dauther-in-laws mother, 2 weeks ago I upgraded the notebook as she was complaining that it was too slow. My first thought was "Vista". Well after much work like installing both service packs, most of the security and Windows upgrades I got the computer to work pretty well. I was alarmed as to how hot the case was getting in the area of the hard drive. The exact model number of this note book is DV2615nr, Product Number GS856UA# ABA Serial Number 2CE7382NIK.
Now this case was sitting on the table and the case was getting so hot that it was starting to burn my hand and I looked underneath and discovered that the access cover for the hard drive is nicely vented but the cover is designed to sit flush on what ever flat surface you set the notebook on and it is even with the rubber feet so the vent is useless. No air can come into the notebook from the bottom allowing cooling of the hard drive and the motherboard. The only other bottom vents are the fan intake and the memory access cover winch is also vented .
Here is another oddity about the notebook the hard drive is unlike any other the power and sata connector pins are opposite of normal 2.5 SATA 9.5mm hard drives; using Fujuitsu hard drives. (now Toshiba hard drives).
I just spent 2 hours at the local computer repair shop 15 minute walk from the house trying to get a replacement hard drive for this notebook. Only to learn that the shop owner may not order the hard drive for me as he has had so many problems with the Hp Dv series of notebooks and I saw 15 dead ones in the shop all failed motherboards from overheating. All failed within a week or 2 of the end of the 1 year warranty.
I am going to say this very bluntly THESE NOTEBOOKS THE DV SERIES BY Hp ARE DESIGNED TO FAIL MANUFACTURED TO DO SO, and Hp will not do a recall. Don't take my word for it go online and type in any Dv series Hp pavilion notebook 2500 and above; read what others are saying about them
you will find nothing good said about them.
Well this model that I have been working on failed 3 days ago and I have been trying to recover the data from the hard drive which at this point I may not be able to do completely. To my knowledge there are no external cases that will match the connections for this Hard Drive.
I have been advised by the business manager of the local computer repair shop to contact Hp customer service in writing on behalf of the owner of the notebook and ask to speak with a 2nd level or supervisor
and speak with them about the failure of the notebook. Also to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. and maybe the Federal Trade Commission against Hp for manufacturing products that they know are faulty by design. This will effect Hp's B.B.B. rating if enough people file complaints.
Hp may I do not know if it is a Public Corporation but these actions will also effect the stock holders earnings.
Here is an Irony the Lady who was or IS the CEO of Hp cost 30,000 jobs within in Hp and had to have knowledge of the faulty manufacturing of these notebooks. Earned millions of dollars marketing faulty products, and now wants to be Governor of California. Is this the person California needs as a governor?
I will suggest that it is time for all those persons who are complaining about the DV line of Hp notebooks to file a class action suite in federal court against Hp and the CEO who authorized the manufacture of these faulty computers.
There is plenty of evidence that there are designed failures in the cooling of these computers as I have pointed out. Further as I have pointed out the hard drives are made so only a specific Fujuitsu line of hard drives can be used to up grade or replace a failed hard drive. At least with the AMD processor motherboard in the computer sitting next to me as I write this.....
I may have started repairing and building computers only a few years ago but I have had some good teachers and even though I have made several post on different thing in my 3 blogs and post them on twitter and face book it is about time that my word is read.
I only write what I can back up with demonstrated proof and in this case the proof is in the pudding.
